ABOUT
Chandragiri Fort is famous historical place for its architectural beauty and rich collection of well-maintained articles which give the glory of yesteryears.This fort situated near Chandragiri river.The river was the border between two erstwhile kingdoms - the Kolathunadu and Thulunadu. The fort offers a breathtaking view of the river and the Arabian Sea. It is a vantage point to watch the sunset. There is a beautiful bridge over the river at Tekkil some five miles from Chandragiri. The Chandragiri village near the confluence of the Payaswini River and Arabian Sea became famous thanks to the Chandragiri Fort. The Fort was built by Sivappa Naidu of Karnataka in the 17th century. It was one among the many forts that he built. Only the remains of the Chandragiri Fort exists today. The sight from the Fort of the confluence of the river and sea and the sunset is enchanting.
HISTORY
Chandragiri Fort is a historical place. In earlier days, the river was considered to be the border of two powerful kingdoms - Kolathunadu and Thulunadu. When Thulunadu was captured by the Vijayanagara Empire, the Kolathunadu kings lost the Chandragiri region to them. During the decline of the Vijayanagara Empire, the area was administratively looked after by the Keladi Nayakas of Ikkeri. When the Vijayanagara Empire fell in the 16th century, Vengappa Nayaka declared independence. Later Shivappa Nayaka took over the reins. He built a chain of forts of which Chandragiri is part.

Boarding Point - Chandragiri Bridge.The Boat Club offers speed boat rides, houseboat cruises, island camping and wildlife tours in the hinterlands. Fishermen near the Chandragiri Bridge will give you a ride on the backwaters and arrange trips to nearby islands.

ROAD CONDITION
Chandragiri fort is what one can call a lone fort, so it is not connected by transport much. Nevertheless, it is located 12 km away from Bekal and around 4 km away from the Kasaragod town. There are buses available from these two places to reach Chandragiri fort. Either from any of these two towns as well as other major cities nearby like Mangalore or Kozhikode, you can also hire cars to reach here.
