Konganpada ia great festival of historical importance, celebrated in the Bhagavathy temple at Chittur, ten kms from Palakkad town. It is held every year on the first Monday after the new moon night in Kumbhom ( February – March),[ 896 A.D. : Konganpada - War between Kongu king and Nedumpurayoor (Palakkad Raja). Kongu army was defeated by combined armies of Nedumpurayoor, Walluvanad, Ernad and Perumpadappu. In honour the Walluvanad Raja received Kurissi Vilayan Chathanur and Kaithala villages from Nedumpurayoor. This event is even now celebrated as a historical event in Chittur taluk where the fight took place..] The festival starts with 'Chilambu' on Sivarathri in Kumbhom which reminds Kongan's (Chola King's) declaration of war and the frightened people worshipping Bhagavathy and besearching her help.
