Maruthuva Malai, which is also called Marunthu Vazhum Malai translates as Medicine Mountain. Nestled in the magnificent Travancore Hills, a miles north of Cape Comorin, it makes for a beautiful locale with checkered paddy fields carpeting the plains and the foothills of the Western Ghats silhouetting the sky.. Maruthuva Malai is one of the major peaks in Hindu mythology. Shri Narayana Guru, a renowned social reformer, is supposed to have meditated in a cave in Maruthuva Malai. This rocky mountain abounds in medicinal plants and is a significant resource for Ayurvedic therapeutic herbs. The mountain is 830 feet high and can be reached by a six-hour trek through enchanting landscape. The history of Maruthuva Malai is steeped in legend. The story is that Maruthuva Malai is a part of the Sanjeevani Mountain, which Lord Hanuman transported to Sri Lanka to cure Lakshmana when he was injured by Ravana’s son, Indrajit. A fragment of the mountain is supposed to have fallen here, at the spot where the Medicine Mountain is today.
