The Netturpetti was traditionally an emblem of the influential families of the land. This ethnic jewel box, once the prized possession of every prosperous Kerala woman, is completely handcrafted from rosewood. The petti (casket), originally designed in the Nettur region of Malabar, is a testimony to the composure and skill of the artisans who make it. Every joint, every screw and lock is shaped and chiselled by the hand. The wooden box is first varnished and then fixed with brass frames. This richly adorn box with its conical lid is a rare collector's item as very few of the hand craftman remain who have the knowledge and skill to craft it.
