Dhauladhar National Park, also known as Gopalpur Zoo, is one of the main attractions of Dharamshala and Palampur that draw attention of wildlife enthusiasts. This is located at a distance of 3 km from Nature Bloom Luxury Resorts and Cottages, this national park is one of the major attractions of the destination. Tourists visiting the"Mini Zoo" situated in the complex can spot animals like leopards, black bears, angora rabbits, Asiatic lion, sambhar, red fox, varieties of wild deers etc. It was set up by the wildlife department of Himachal Pradesh Government over an area of 30 acres. The best time to visit this place is from April to June in summers and from November to February in winters. Avoid travelling during monsoon months as the area is prone to landslides. (Zoo is closed on Monday.) It covers an area of 12.5 hectares of lush green landscape at an elevation of 1200 meters on the Dhauladhar Mountains. Forest Cover: Dhauladhar Nature Park lies in the Himalayan biogeography zone and has wet temperate forest cover. The fauna in the nature park are kept in enclosures and visitors get a chance to learn about the rare animals and birds living on the Himalayan ranges. Birds in the park include kaleej, cheer, koklass and monal. Animals include barking deer, musk deer, black bear, tiger, hyena, sambar, wild boar and leopard. Wildlife viewing is the main attraction of this nature park. Trekking enthusiasts can have a great time taking the route from Taklech to Gopalpur through Daranghati and Sharai Kothi. You can stay at the forest rest houses in Taklech and Gopalpur. There are a number of campsites here as well. In Palampur (10 kilometers away) you canenjoy bird watching, camping and paragliding. Nearby pilgrimage sites include the Chamunda Devi Temple (8 kilometers away) and the Buddhist monasteries at Dharamshala (13 kilometers away).
