Kottakkal Pooram is the annual festival at the Sree Vishwambara temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his incarnation as Dhanvanthari. As per Indian mythology, Dhanvanthari is the patron god of medicine and health. People belonging to all religion can participate in this festival and hence making it more popular. The festival days are made jubilant with a variety of programmes. The eminent music maestros perform Hindustani and Carnatic music each day. The performance of Kathaklai, Ottanthullal and Chakyarkoothu make this festival a rare visual treat. The panchavadya (traditional orchestra) performance is an awesome experience and people gather in hundreds to enjoy this. These together make this festival a spectacular cultural fiesta enjoyed by all sections of people apart from its religious significance.
