Dedicated to lord Shiva, the Ravelphadi Cave Temple is considered as one of the main attractions in Aihole. This temple was built in the 6th century and is considered as the oldest rock cut temple of the area. Various forms of lord Shiva are showcased in this temple, which is well known for the elaborate and exquisitely detailed structures that are present in it. A statue of dancing Shiva which seems to be moving is present inside the cave.The inner sanctum of the cave is marked by triple entrance and possesses two mantapas. Large pillars are beautifully carved and include the figures of dancing Shiva. A visit to this Revalphadi cave is sure to leave history enthusiasts enriched with a lot of knowledge.
