St.Philomena's Forane Church, popularly known as Koonammavu Church is situated in Koonammavu, A northern suburban town of Kochi City of Kerala state, India . This is one of the oldest Roman Catholic churches in India, built in 1837, the church is of immense historic importance and a pilgrim centre too.Blessed Euphrasia Eluvathingal spend her boarding attached to the first indigenous Carmelite community founded by Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara and Rev. Leopold Beccaro 1866 at Koonammavu.Saint Philomena was, as believed by her devotees within the Catholic Church, a young virgin martyr whose remains were discovered in 1802 in the Catacombs of Priscilla. Three tiles enclosing the tomb bore an inscription that was taken to indicate that her name (in the Latin of the inscription) was Filumena, the English form of which is Philomena.
