Anchuvilakku is situated near Boat Jetty and west end of Changanacherry market. It is inaugurated by The Dhalawa Velu Thampi in the Emperor of Balarama Varma in 1805 during opening ceremony of famous Changanacherry market. The first selling material is an Elephant. The lamp signifies the 'unity in diversity' of the local ethnic and religious sects - a truly fitting tribute to the ethos of Changanacherry. The town was therefore called Anchu Vilakkinte Pattanam in local language, meaning Town of Five Fire Lamps, which symbolizes unity and points to its heyday as an entrepot.
