Ithithanam Elakavu Devi Temple is one among the famous temples in central Travancore. It is believed that the temple has a history of more than 500 years. The temple is located in Kurichy Panchayat 2 km east to M.C. road. In kottayam District, Kerala.The history of the temple is connected with Kodungalloor Devi. The godess had reached Ambalakodi from Kodungalloor. The myth is that her blessed presence was on the Panayolakuda of Vellappalli snicker a strong devotee of Kodungalloor devi on his return journey after darsan at Kodungalloor. Moolastana’ of the temple is ‘Ambalakodi’ a place ½ km away from the Elakavu temple.The temple was modernized in 1994 and flag mart was erected in 2003. The ten day long Thiru Utsavu Annual Utsav (festival) starts on the day of Vishu in the month of ‘Medam’. The temple ‘Tanthi’ will hoist the temple flag. This liturgical function is enriched with tanthric poojas and rituals and various stage programmes of the renowed artists. The traditional temple namely ‘Palavruthamkali & Velakali add beauty to the occasion. All the celebrations of these days are calculated to uphold ad keep up the spiritual vibrations. The natives and devotees wherever they are will reach their home town –Ithithanam and participate in the poojas and enjoy the blessings of Elakavilamma during this period. A visit to the temple brings relief to them from the over afflict anguish and angonies of material life. Prior to the festival Sri. Bhagavathi visits houses of the entire administration and the devotees welcome the godess with “Nirapara” and “Anpoli”to get her blessings. The “Parakejhunnallippu” is for 8 days. The procession of the godess will first move to Chiravumuttom as Mahadevar being her father. hit counters
