Thangassery Beach is the most fascinating attraction of kollam which is situated 5 km from Kollam in a seaside. It was constructed in 18th century in the shape of Old Portuguese Fort. It is counted as the most beautiful historical site which still reminds us the legacy of Indian culture. Today, it is considered one of the most beautiful beaches of Kerala lying with swaying palms here and there. Additionally, these days, it becomes a fascinating picnic spot of Kerala where one can enjoy its holiday with its maximum. This beach is also famous for some water activities such as scuba diving, parasailing, fishing, and catamaran riding. Mostly, enthusiast’s tourists visit here to play with dangers. There is a lighthouse at Thangassery, about 144 feet tall, which has been declared the most attractive point of this place. It becomes a must-visited site built in the year 1902. In these days, this beach offers all the tourists to come and enjoy it completely. It is believed that this beach was known as a part of the Portuguese colony. After few years, it was renamed as Dutch colony. At last, it went under the rule of British. The Thangassery Lighthouse is open to all the visitors from 5.30 to 7.30 pm in the evening. It is the accurate time when one can climb up and have a look of panoramic views. Apart from it, a magnificent fort is seen which was built by Dutch and the Portuguese are there nearby which are in ruins.
