The Arrakkal Museum is a museum is related to the Arakkal family, the only Muslim royal family in Kerala, South India. The museum is actually a section of the Arakkalkettu(Arakkal Royal Palace).The Arrakkal museum is owned and managed by the Arakkal Family Trust.The museum is a part of the Arakkalkettu (Arakkal Palace). south that celebrates the memory and glory of Kerala's only Muslim royal family- the Arakkal Ali Rajas. Previously a majestic palace of the royal family and their actual place of residence, this museum is a true testimony to the precise Muslim architecture and design.
It celebrates the memory and grandeur of Kerala's only Muslim royal family- the Arakkal Ali Rajas .The durbar hall section of the palace has been converted into a museum by the Government of Kerala. It was opened in July 2005 after a Rs. 9,000,000 renovation. Arakkal Kettu, a palace of historical significance, was the residence of the former Arakkal Ali Rajas, the only Muslim royal family of Kerala which ruled parts of the coast and Lakshadweep island. Although renovated by the government, the Arakkalkettu is still owned by the Arakkal Royal Trust and does not fall under the control of the country's archaeology department, the Archaeological Survey of India. The government had taken a keen interest in preserving the heritage of the Arakkal Family, which had played a prominent role in the history of Malabar.
The museum shows artefacts and heirlooms of the royal family which includes the family seal, the pathayam (the wooden box in which grain was stored), document box and so on. The royal copies of the Holy Quran, an old-fashioned telephone, swords and daggers used by the rulers, and a telescope are also on display.
Best time to visit in winter season from September to February. open at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on Mondays and all Public Holidays.
